What does Hunter Renfrow being extended mean for the Raiders?

After both Maxx Crosby and Derek Carr agreed to contract extensions with Las Vegas, Hunter Renfrow becomes the third Raider to sign a multi-year extension this year.

From the first moments of their arrival in Las Vegas, head coach Josh McDaniels and general manager Dave Zielger were instantly drawn to quarterback Derek Carr and edge rusher Maxx Crosby. As such, it didn’t come as a surprise when the Raiders’ new regime announced their first major priority was the extension of Maxx Crosby.

Through the process of extending Crosby, keeping Carr around was also on the forefront of Dave Ziegler’s mind – Albeit there was no rush to get things done prematurely. Sure enough, the extension for Carr was announced sometime later, allowing the Raiders’ new front office to lock up both their quarterback and young stud on the defensive line who earned the honor of second-team All-Pro last season.

Newcomer Davante Adams also had quite the payday upon signing his new contract with Las Vegas, making him the no.1 highest paid receiver leaguewide, before the trade that sent Tyreek Hill to the Dolphins.

When the three abovementioned players signed their new contracts, they did so with one common goal: To leave enough cash left for both Hunter Renfrow and Darren Waller to get paid as well. As of Friday, Hunter Renfrow and the Raiders officially agreed to terms on an extension, leaving Darren Waller the odd man out.

Have no fear, though.

When asked about the current state of his contract, Waller answered by stating he’s “focused on football, not [his] contract” When it comes time to discuss that extension, though, there’s nothing but mutual interest between the Las Vegas tight end and the Raiders’ front office. For now, let’s focus on Hunter Renfrow, and why the Silver and Black got this one right.
