HATTIESBURG — This is what Ole Miss baseball coach Mike Bianco had to say about freshman left-hander Hunter Elliott on April 8.

“We can leave him out there and hope that he can get us deep in a game like you would hope from your Friday night guy,” Bianco said after the Rebels’ 7-4 home loss to Alabama. “But he’s not our Friday night guy. He’s just another pitcher like the rest of them.”

And here’s what Bianco said about Elliott on Sunday, after the freshman turned in a performance that will go down in the Ole Miss history books.

“When you watch the confidence, the toughness – much like (Dylan) DeLucia from the other side – they just make pitches,” Bianco said. “They make pitches and get off the field. Sometimes that’s the difference. He’s very similar. He’s had a lot of really good games for us but none better than this. He was lights out today.”
