Kane: Haaland and Nunez transfers to Premier League will drive me to improve

Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane insists he isn’t fazed about Erling Haaland and Darwin Nunez challenging him for the Premier League golden boot next season.

Manchester City announced the signing of Haaland on Monday, while Liverpool have agreed a fee to sign Benfica striker Nunez.

Kane, 28, scored 17 Premier League goals in 2021-22 and while he admits it’s always difficult to win the golden boot, he’s relishing the opportunity of competing against some of the best strikers in Europe.

“The battle for the golden boot is always tough,” said Kane.

“The Premier League has produced some top strikers around the world for a number of years now.

“Every season I’ve been playing it’s always been a tough battle to win that golden boot and it’s no different — you expect the top strikers to want to play in the Premier League. With those two new signings, that’s going to be the case.

“It helps me as a player to have good competition, it drives me to improve. I look forward to the challenge.”

Manchester City were interested in signing Kane to be their main striker last summer, but Daniel Levy priced the Premier League champions out of a move for the England captain.

Since Antonio Conte took charge of Spurs last November, Kane has struck a great relationship with the former Chelsea and Juventus manager, previously admitting he is “a big fan” of the Italian.
