Former Detroit Red Wings coach Jeff Blashill is among those who didn’t make the cut in the Philadelphia Flyers coaching search.
Frank Seravalli of dailyfaceoff.com reported John Tortorella and Barry Trotz are the favorites in Philadelphia. Many around the NHL believe Tortorella will land the job.
Blashill will land on his feet. He is highly respected around the NHL, and he has a lot of friends around the NHL. Blashill could end up as an associate or assistant coach. He and Tampa Bay Lightning coach Jon Cooper are friends. The Lightning assistants are expected to be interviewed for head coaching jobs after the Stanley Cup Final.
The Florida Panthers have just fired two assistant coaches, and haven’t said whether head coach Andrew Brunette is safe.
Sportsnet insider Elliotte Friedman said don’t be surprised if Blashill becomes a candidate in Florida.
